Thumbs up: Canal Street Facebook page becomes most 'Liked' regional LGBT page in the UK
Canal Street’s Facebook page hit 20,000 likes today, making it the largest regionally based LGBT-related Facebook page in the country.
Since the page was set up less than three years ago it has become the UK’s third most ‘Liked’ LGBT Facebook page behind Attitude Magazine and Pinknews.co.uk.
Run by Canal-st.co.uk, which is described as a facility for the LGBT community of the whole region, it is part of an ever expanding support and information network which currently includes a mobile phone app, twitter page, merchandise and a ticket sales facility.
“I think that’s why it has expanded so rapidly,” said a spokesperson for Canal-st.co.uk. “It’s a great achievement.”
The page now has more likes than the world famous Manchester Pride and is by far the most successful of any equivalent gay village based site in the country.
