Two ex-Manchester City youth scheme players in court after woman raped in Welsh Premier Inn

By Dean Wilkins

Two ex-Manchester City youth team players are on trial accused of raping a woman at a hotel.

Ched Evans, 23, who plays for Wales and Sheffield United, and Port Vale’s Clayton McDonald, 23, both deny the attack which allegedly took place in a Rhyl Premier Inn, last May.

Evans is a graduate of the Manchester City youth academy and scored 10 goals in 28 league appearances while on loan to Norwich City in 2007.

Liverpool-born McDonald, who was also part of the Manchester City youth scheme, has played for Macclesfield Town, Chesterfield and Walsall. The defender joined Port Vale at the end of last season.

The two men are due to stand trial at Caernarfon Crown Court from 10.30am.
