Mancunian Matters have once again teamed up with top cocktail bar Socio Rehab to bring you a cheeky tipple.
We'll have a recipe ready for you to try at home ahead of the weekend every fortnight, or you can head down to Socio if you'd rather not try your luck.
Each recipe is created specially for MM by Socio's bartenders and they'll be ready and waiting for you to go in and try at the Northern Quarter favourite.
This week – 'Amber Cocktail'
The logistics of making this cocktail is relatively simple, but the rewards are there.
Pour the Domaine de Canton, Antica Formula and Tapatio Tequila into a glass. Add a dash of celery bitters – if you have trouble getting these either pay a visit to Harvey Nichols, other specialist food stores or pay the guys at Socio Rehab a visit and they’ll sort you out with an order.
Stir these well and serve strained over ice. Add a twist of lemon for a vibrant, citrus zest.
The blend of flavours in this lively drink is striking and a party for the taste buds. Domaine de Canton is primarily a ginger liqueur made from cognac, flavoured with orange flower and champagne.
Balance this with the sweet vermouth, the sharpness of the tequila and the freshness of the celery bitters and you are left with a lively and refreshing aperitif that marks every occasion.
Domaine de Canton is one of the most aesthetic drinks appearance-wise you will find. It comes in a bottle that is designed in the style of a Vietnamese lantern, in recognition of the fresh Baby Vietnamese Ginger that is used in the drink.
Cocktail enthusiasts or new converts to this spirit can read more about this drink in next month’s Imbibe magazine, where there is a feature on the upcoming International Domaine de Canton Best Bartender competition.
The guys from Socio-Rehab will be pitching the Amber Cocktail against other entrants from around the world. Let’s get behind them!
