ONE MORE: FC United need win to secure spot

By Matt Davies

Stockport County and FC United were handed two sumptuous ties in the final qualifying tests of the FA Cup as both clubs chase a place in the competition’s first round.

Stockport will host Blue Square Bet North’s Stalybridge FC – with £12,000 and a place in the first round proper at stake for the winners.

Both sides are in the top halves of their leagues and meet on October 20.

FC United have a mouth-watering tie with Conference side Hereford, with the Evo-Stik Premier Division side ever closer to meeting Football League opposition.

A spokesman for the club tweeted: “We've drawn giant killers of yesteryear Hereford at home in the next round of the FA Cup.”

United will be looking to recreate the stunning cup run that eventually saw them dumped out by Brighton in a second round two years ago.

Struggling Hyde host mid-table BSB North opposition in the form of Yorkshire side Harrogate Town at Ewen Field.

And Altrincham face a trip to Lincolnshire to meet mid-table Boston United, also of the BSB North.
