Manchester United drawn away against Liverpool in FA Cup fourth round

Manchester United’s reward for knocking out arch-rivals - and reigning winners - City in the FA Cup today is a trip to Anfield in the fourth round. 

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side will travel to Liverpool in three weeks time as the Road to Wembley continues to put the biggest teams in United’s path to FA Cup glory. 

Always a passionate affair, the game will no doubt have an extra edge following Luis Suarez’s eight game ban for racially abusing United defender Patrice Evra the last time the clubs met.  

United beat ten man City 3-2 this afternoon thanks to a Wayne Rooney double and Danny Welbeck’s goal all in the first half at the Etihad Stadium. 

City managed to fight back to 3-2 through Aleksander Kolarov and Sergio Aguero despite captain Vincent Kompany being sent off for a two footed tackle on Nani in the first half. 

Premier League legend Paul Scholes – who only retired last summer – was unveiled on the United substitutes bench after resigning with the club until the end of the season, after contacting Fergie and saying he missed playing. 

Liverpool are again embroiled in a racism row after a fan was arrested following their 5-1 victory over Oldham Athletic on Friday night following the Latics player Tom Adeyemi being reduced to tears by an alleged racist taunt from the supporter.

Providing Bolton Wanderers can overcome League Two Macclesfield Town in a replay at the Reebok on Tuesday week, they will host considerably bigger opposition in Swansea City in the fourth round.

Bolton were nearly embarrassed by Macclesfield yesterday, needing David Wheater to score a headed equaliser after goals from Colin Daniel and Arnaud Mendy overturned Wanderers’ lead from an Ivan Klasnic strike. 

Swansea City await in the next round after they beat Barnsley 4-2 at Oakwell yesterday. 

Elsewhere in the draw, there are eye catching ties between local rival Sunderland and Middlesbrough, and the winner of Arsenal and Leeds tomorrow night will play Aston Villa. 

League Two Swindon Town – who knocked out Premier League Wigan Athletic yesterday – will play either Nottingham Forest or Leicester City away.
