CUNNINGHAM: Bristol snag City youngster

By Mancunian Matters staff

Manchester City academy star Greg Cunningham is joining Bristol City after agreeing a four-year deal with the Championship side.

The 21-year-old Irish international made his Premier League debut with Champions in April 2012 but has only played three further games.

The defender has been with the Blues since he was 16 but spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forrest.

"I've been with City since I moved over here so it was always going to be a big decision," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

"But I felt to better my career and better myself as a player I had to leave Man City, and I think Bristol City is the right club for me.

"[Bristol City manager] Derek [McInnes] is a very ambitious and driven manager and I'm very much looking forward to working under him."

Cunningham becomes McInnes' second signing of the summer transfer window after the introduction of St Johnstone midfielder Jody Morris.
