An Altrincham man is being charged with theft after the handbag and shoes of a woman who was killed in a hit and run incident on Upper Brook Street, Longsight, went missing.

Marc Kirvin, 47, was been charged with theft today and will appear in front of a magistrates court in Manchester on May 17.

Sarwari Ashraf, 62, from Longsight, died after being hit by several vehicles in the morning rush hour last Thursday.

Many people witnessed the ‘horrific sight’. One Tweeter said: “Just saw possibly the most disturbing thing of my life cycling along Upper Brook Street. Keep an eye out on the news, too bad to tweet it.”

A 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving has been bailed pending further inquiries until May 2012.
