An award-winning Manchester bar and top-ranking Trip Advisor hotel are joining forces to raise money for Sparkle, a national transgender charity.
Taurus Bar, in conjunction with The City Warehouse Apartment Hotel, hopes to raise £8000 for Sparkle in the Park in Sackville Gardens.
The efforts will include a raffle for unusual prizes, including a weekend taxi pass around the city.
Sparkle spokesperson Bella Jay describes the event, which will run from July 13-15, as a celebration of gender diversity and an opportunity to get support and information.
She said: “I hope that Sparkle 2012 will be the biggest and best to date.
“Lots of people are working hard behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly and there is a great programme of events for everyone to enjoy.”
Fundraiser Ian Kelly is optimistic that this year’s event will raise more money than last year, as the 2011 festival saw a small financial loss.
He said: “There’s a big buzz around this year, we’ve started to do things now even though the festival’s not until July.”
The City Warehouse is officially ranked as Manchester’s number one apartment hotel on Trip Advisor.
Sparkle in the Park is now moving into its eighth consecutive year and will feature performances from acts including KinkyMinx as well as market stalls and information booths.
Tickets cost £2 and can be purchased from Taurus Bar on Canal Street or The City Warehouse Apartment Hotel.
