Volunteers needed to help create community orchard in Reddish Vale Country Park

By Stephanie Prayle

Stockport residents are being invited to help create an orchard in Reddish Vale Country Park tomorrow.

Existing orchards face a revamp along with the new community orchard project to be carried out on the day.

The country park was opened in 1985 and has proudly boasted a ‘Grow Your Own Grub’ garden run by volunteers and ‘Friends’ of the park.

Reddish Vale Friends are proud of the local input into the garden and describe it as a lovely area of orchard and a tranquil place to spend some time.

Stockport Council spokesperson John Spittlehouse said: “We hope local people will join us in the wonderful surroundings of Reddish Vale to help upkeep existing orchards and to create a new community orchard space in the Vale."

He added: "It should be an enjoyable and satisfying day out in the great outdoors.”

The council is hoping for a helping hand from the weather but people wanting to offer their time should dress for the season.

All are welcome to help between 10am and 2pm on Saturday November 5.

You are advised to wear sturdy shoes and bring a lunchbox, though free refreshments will be available.

For more information contact Reddish Vale Country Park on 0161 477 5637.
