Bury South MP Ivan Lewis claims Downing Street and David Cameron are ‘out of touch and incompetent’

A Bury MP claimed at last night's count that the council results prove that Downing Street and David Cameron are ‘out of touch and incompetent’.

The Labour MP for Bury South, Ivan Lewis, was buoyant after his party’s success in this year’s campaign, showering praise on supporters and candidates alike.

“It’s been a very, very good night,” said Mr Lewis. “We’ve had great support. The people of Bury have sent two clear messages.

“One to the heart of Downing Street that they feel the government are out of touch and incompetent.

“The second is that Labour is doing a good quality job here. The Labour party are united and focused.

When asked how he expected Labour to do in tonight’s count, Mr Lewis replied: “The important thing is that you don’t take any vote or voter for granted or make assumptions.

“We’ve worked hard. The Labour party has been out on the streets campaigning. There have been hardly any Conservatives out on the streets.

“We’ve been out there engaging in a two-way conversation with Bury people. We’re a party that is rooted in the local community and we’re proud of that.
