By Dean Wilkins

A man is being questioned by police after the handbag and shoes of a woman who was killed on Upper Brook Street, Longsight, went missing.

The 46-year-old was arrested on suspicion of theft and remains in police custody.

Sarwari Ashraf, 62, from the Longsight area, was struck by several vehicles while crossing Upper Brook Street during the morning rush hour of Thursday March 29. Her torso was found in the middle of the road.

Many people witnessed the ‘horrific sight’. One Tweeter said: “Just saw possibly the most disturbing thing of my life cycling along Upper Brook Street. Keep an eye out on the news, too bad to tweet it.”

Another added: “Cant believe what I've just seen in the middle of Upper Brook Street a body all mangled or a pig or something across the road?!?”
