LOCAL ELECTIONS 2012: Bury Conservative chief fears the worst

Bury's Conservative leader Cllr Roger Brown says he fears his party may have suffered at the polls today - and admitted that his own seat may be one of those lost to Labour.

Speaking to MM as the count got underway, Cllr Brown said that many staunch Tory voters - on whom the party could have relied on in previous elections - may have stayed at home in protest at the Government.

He said: "I've got no hopes. I've got fears quite frankly.

"In 2008 we were winning seats. We had our best showing for 30 years.

"We lost 10 seats last year. I don't expect to win in my ward of Tottington."

Cllr Brown added that he expected UKIP to have done well, something which is being predicted across the country.
