CITY STORE: United fans smash window

By Dean Wilkins

A Manchester United fan who smashed the City Store on Market Street as part of a mob of 30 was arrested today.

After the Blues beat their rivals 1-0 in last night’s six-pointer derby game, a group of fans marched menacingly up Market Street while chanting.

As the group walked past the City club shop, several members of the gang kicked and smashed a window.

One witness of the attack said: “It was extremely intimidating to be walking down Market Street at that time.

“The gang were loud, boisterous and it reminded me of the riots we saw in summer as police held back near the Marks & Spencers further down the road and let the gang carry on.”

The 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possessing a controlled drug after a 26-year-old man was arrested last night.

The pair remain in police custody as inquiries continues.
