Liam Gallagher joins Maradona at derby press conference after Manchester City go top of Premier League with 1-0 win over United

By Dean Wilkins

Ex-Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher crashed the Manchester derby’s post-match press conference and celebrated with Diego Maradona after City beat rivals United 1-0 last night.

The renowned Blues fan barged his way into the meeting as emotions ran high throughout the Etihad Stadium, and praised Roberto Mancini.

City’s captain Vincent Kompany headed his team to the top of the Premier League after clinching a vital win in front of an estimated worldwide audience of 650million.

Kompany said: “Absolutely buzzing. We’ve been waiting for this moment. Someone texted me and said he thought I was going to score the winning goal, and I thought he was a lunatic!

“We wanted this result so bad.

“It all comes down to the dream we had when we were children, and we all want it so much.”

Gallagher posted a picture online of himself with World Cup legend Maradona and said: “Maradone shakes hand of God!”

The game was marred by a touchline row between managers Mancini and Sir Alex Ferguson as the latter criticised his counterpart's actions towards the fourth official.

Gallagher attacked Ferguson and said: "He must have been blinded by the lights. He must have been on the whisky too much."

Manchester City are now top of the Premier League table on goal difference with two games left to play.

They will face a Newcastle side, who are looking to bounce back from a 4-0 thrashing by Wigan on Saturday, this Sunday at St James’ Park.
